It Will Be
My mama was my best friend and my hero. She was the strongest woman I have ever known. She faced cancer four times, the last three being oral cancer. She underwent two major surgeries to remove part of her tongue—the second was much more complex than the first. The cancer took away her ability to speak and eat, leaving her only able to communicate by writing or texting. She was fed by a feeding tube. Yet she kept fighting—not for herself, but for her family.
She would always say, “I will never tell you it will be okay, but I will tell you it will be. Whatever you’re going through, it will be and it will go, and you will make it.”
I lost my mam on 4/26/2021. Before she passed away, I asked her to write “it will be,” and I’m so incredibly thankful to Emi for bringing her words to life in my most favorite tattoo. I hold on to it like a lifeline on the really difficult days, and I can feel my mama near me.
