Piece of Home
In 2010, I packed up my life and left the home where I had spent 27 years. I moved 2,100 miles away, crossed an international border, and began a new life in a different country.
I grew up in the small community of Cloverdale, a place with a quirky and memorable tradition: many of its streets are named after breeds of cattle. That tradition became the foundation for this design.
Jersey Drive was the street where I grew up, making a Jersey calf the perfect centerpiece. I also incorporated clover as a tribute to the town’s name, and dogwood blossoms to represent British Columbia, where they serve as the provincial flower.
I gave the artist the concept, and she brought it to life perfectly. No matter how far from home I am, I carry a piece of it with me every day, and I love telling the story behind it.
